| Jerome Williams
Jerome Williams ( born May 10, 1973 in Washington, D.C.) is a former professional basketball player in the NBA, who last played for the New York Knicks. He was a star player on the Magruder High School basketball team. Drafted out of Georgetown University
by the Detroit Pistons with the 26th pick of the 1996 NBA Draft, he played four-plus years with the Pistons, becoming one of their key reserves. He was a fan favorite during his days playing for the Toronto Raptors due to his tenacious efforts on the court.
On February 22, 2001 Williams was traded from the Detroit Pistons, along with Eric Montross, to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Corliss Williamson, Tyrone Corbin, Kornel David and a future first-round draft pick. He was so enthusiastic about joining his new teammates that he immediately drove from Detroit to Toronto upon hearing the news. In 2002-03 with the Raptors, Williams averaged 9.7 points per game, primarily as a starter, which has thus far been h is career-best scoring average. In 2003, Williams also made a cameo appearance in the Disney |
Channel Originall Movie, Full-Court Miracle. December 1, 2003 saw him traded again, this time along with Antonio Davis and Chris Jefferies, to the Chicago Bulls for Jalen Rose, Donyell Marshall and Lonny Baxter. Overall i n 2003-04, Williams played in 68 games, starting 44 of them, averaging 6.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. During the 2004 offseason, he was involved in yet another trade, one that sent him and Jamal Crawford to the Knicks for Dikembe Mutombo, Frank Williams, Othella Harrington and Cezary Trybanski. His relocation to New York meant a relocation to the bench, as his minutes dropped down to around 17 a game. On August 15, 2005, Williams was waived by the Knicks to avoid luxury taxes on his salary, as part of the NBA’s new labor agreement. He announced his retirement from his playing career less than 48 hours later. Williams played in 587 games over nine seasons, averaging 6.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Williams joined the NBA’s "Basketball Without Borders" program, an effort to teach the game and bring resources to underdeveloped nations in Africa, Asia and elsewhere. In Toronto, he was always greeted with a standing ovation when he returned in a Bulls or Knicks unif orm. Nicknamed The Junkyard Dog (or JYD ) by Rick Mahorn in his early days as a Detroit Pist on for his hard work and hustle (as stated in an interview while he served as a commentator on NBA TV), Jerome sometimes refers to himself in the third person.
On January 25, 2006, Williams rejoined the Toronto Raptors as their community representative.
Jerome also played a minor role in the Canadian FBI show, Sue Thomas: F.B. Eye. He played Otis Washington, a dealer turned snitch.

More was traded to the Minnesota North Stars early in the 1989-90 season in exchange for Dave Archibald. He spent one year with the North Stars organization before being traded to the Montreal Canadiens for goaltender Brian Hayward. More never appeared in a game with the Canadiens, spending the season with the AHL’s Fredericton Canadiens, before being exposed in the 1991 NHL Expansion Draft and selected by the San Jose Sharks.
| | After five seasons with the Sharks, More was traded back to the New York Rangers before the 1996-97 season in a trade which brought Marty McSorley to San Jose. More only played 14 games in his second stint with the Rangers, however, before being sent to the Phoenix Coyotes. Bob Sweeney
The Bruins drafted Bob Sweeney out of high school in the U.S. in 1982. He went on to play at Boston College for the next four years before making his NHL debut with Boston in the 1986-87 season but spent the majority of the year with the teams AHL affiliate in Moncton.
The 1987-88 season was Sweeney’s first full year in the NHL, a year that saw the Bruins go all the way to the Stanley Cup finals only to be swept by the Oilers. Two seasons later, they were back in the finals against Edmonton, this time winning one game but giving Lord Stanley to the Oilers once again.
After six seasons as a Bruins forward, Sweeney was claimed off waivers by the Sabres in 1992 and remained with the team for three seasons. The Islanders claimed him once again in the 1995 Waiver Draft, but during the 1995-96 season Sweeney was dealt to the Flames, where he finished his NHL career.
| | He spent the next season in the IHL before heading overseas to play in Germany in 1997 where he played in the German Elite League until 2001. |

Surya Bonaly
Bonaly was born in Nice, France in 1973. Her figure skating started when she was 10 years of age. When she was a child, her skating heroes were Midori Ito and Brian Boitano.
When Bonaly first began to compete at the international level, her coach at the time, Didier Gailhaguet, fabricated a story that she had been born on Reunion Island before being adopted by the Bonalys in France. This was widely reported by the international media (including, for example, a lengthy feature during the CBS television broadcast of the 1989 World Championships) before the story was finally debunked. Bonaly now lists her birthplace as Nice. Later in her career, Bonaly was coached by her adoptive mother, Suzanne, a former physical education teacher.
| | Bonaly went on to become a nine-time winner of the French National Championships (1989 - 1997) and won the European Figure Skating Championships five times (1991 - 1995). She was a three-time silver medalist at the World Figure Skating Championships (1993 - 1995), but she never managed to win a world title, despite her strong jumping ability. Nor did she ever win a medal in the Winter Olympics, placing 5th in 1992 in Albertville, 4th in 1994 at Lillehammer, and 10th in 1998 at Nagano. Bonaly took the Athlete’s Oath at the 1992 Winter Olympics.
Formerly a competitive gymnast, Bonaly is famous for her backflip landed on only one blade; she is considered the only skater in the world capable of this move.citation needed She is also known for having attempted and apparently landed a quadruple toe loop jump at the 1991 World Figure Skating Championships - the first and only female skater to have done so. Bonaly was never credited with successfully landing the jump by the International Skating Union.
She competed in the 1994 World Figure Skating Championships in Chiba, Japan. With Nancy Kerrigan, Oksana Baiul and Chen Lu out, it was an open field for the championship. Bonaly skated a clean performance but, according to the judges, home country favorite Yuka Sato had a better skate. Bonaly thought she was robbed and defiantly stood beside the medals platform rather than on it.
Although she was coaxed into standing on the platform, Bonaly took off her silver medal after it was presented to her and was immediately booed by the crowd. After the medals presentation, a crying Bonaly was greeted by reporters. She believed she was robbed of gold in 1993 as well, as she thought she should have beaten Oksana Baiul at that particular World Championship competition (Baiul narrowly won the world title, having been outjumped and outspun by Bonaly but receiving higher artistic impression scores).
Bonaly suffered a very serious injury, rupturing her achilles tendon, in the summer of 1996 that caused her to miss much of the following season. Although she returned to competition for the 1997-98 season, her jumping never returned to its previous level.
Having lost any chance for a medal during the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan due to a fall on a triple Salchow jump, Bonaly decided to end her amateur career with a symbolic gesture: with nothing left to lose, she performed her signature back flip - an illegal move under International Skating Union rules - in front of the judges. She then proceeded to finish her program with her back facing the judges.
Bonaly resides in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S. and became an American citizen in June 2004. She toured with the Champions on Ice skating show for several years until they went out of business after the 2007 season. Bonaly also recently completed shows in Russia with Evgeni Plushenko and was a guest skater at Ice Theatre of New York’s 2008 gala in NYC.[1] |

Ken Belanger
Kenneth Belanger (born May 14, 1974 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada)
Left-winger Ken Belanger entered the 2001-02 season as a physical component on the improved Los Angeles Kings. The 6’4" grinder played with three teams before heading to the Golden state and was an imposing force wherever he played.
Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario Belanger played with the local Legion team in the NOHA before heading to the OHL. He split his major junior career between the Ottawa 67’s and Guelph Storm where he demonstrated an ability to go to the net as well as play rough. In 1992, the burly forward was chosen 153rd overall by the Hartford Whalers at the NHL Entry Draft. He never played for the club and was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in March 1994.
Belanger played three games for Toronto in 1994-95 then was dispatched to St. John’s of the AHL the next season. He was traded to the New York Islanders in January 1996 and was an | | effective enforcer for the young squad. In November 1998 he was sent to the Boston Bruins for forward Ted Donato. He received more ice time under hard-nosed coaches Pat Burns and Mike Keenan but was not resigned by the Bruins after the 2000-01 season. Belanger was inked to deal by the Kings to help give their skilled players more room in 2001-02.
After missing the majority of the 2002-03 season and the entire 2003-04 season, Belanger signed as a free-agent with Adirondack of the UHL in December of 2004 and went on to play one game with the club. In the fall of 2005 Belanger returned to the Kings lineup and saw action in five games before informing the club of his intentions to retire.

Rick Middleton
Richard (Rick) Middleton (born December 4, 1953, in Toronto, Ontario) is a former professional ice hockey player for the NHL New York Rangers and Boston Bruins.
A right wing, Middleton was drafted in the 1st round, 14th overall, by the Rangers in the 1973 NHL Amateur Draft after a glittering junior career with the Oshawa Generals in which he led his league in scoring his final year and was named to the league’s Second All-Star Team. He spent the 1973-74 season with the Rangers’ farm team, the AHL Providence Reds, earning rookie of the year honors and being named to the AHL’s First All-Star Team.
He made the big club during the 1974-75 season, and despite suffering injuries that restricted him to 47 games, scored 22 goals in that limited time. The following season was not as spectacular, as he scored 24 goals in 77 games while showing defensive deficiencies. Following the 1975-76 season, the Rangers traded Middleton to the Boston Bruins for veteran winger Ken Hodge. | | It was one of the most one-sided deals in hockey history. Hodge played only a single season more before his career ended, while Middleton became a great star in Boston, scoring a hat trick in his first game as a Bruin and nearly nine hundred points in a Bruins uniform over the next twelve years. Generally paired with centre Barry Pederson, "Nifty" had five straight seasons of at least forty goals and ninety points and led the Bruins to perennial glittering records. His leadership was apparent in being named co-captain (with Ray Bourque) to succeed Terry O’ Reilly in 1985, a position he held until he retired.
His best season was the 1981-82 season, during which Middleton scored a career high 51 goals, won the Lady Byng Trophy for excellence and sportsmanship, and was named to the NHL’ Second All-Star Team. The following season he led the Bruins to the league’s best regular season record, and set still unbroken records that year for the most points scored in the playoffs by a player not advancing to the finals (33) and for a single playoff series (19, in the quarterfinals against Buffalo). His 105 points in the 1983-84 season tied Ken Hodge’s team record for most points scored in a season by a right winger, and remains unbroken.
Middleton also starred in international play, being named to play for Team Canada in the Canada Cup in 1981 and 1984. Teamed on a line with Wayne Gretzky and Michel Goulet in the 1984 series, he scored four goals and four assists in seven games.
Middleton played in the NHL All-Star Game in 1981, 1982 and 1984. He retired with 448 goals and 540 assists for 988 points in 1005 games, and added 100 points in 114 playoff games. |
